SCHOLARSHIPS

The Aberdeen Public Schools Foundation administers several scholarships available to current students and CHS alumni. Please click on the links below for scholarship applications:

  • Aberdeen Public Schools Athletic Boosters Athlete of the Year Scholarship (no application, selected by committee - 2 scholarships)
    For CHS seniors showing significant athletic achievement and character.  The scholarships are funded by the APS Athletic Booster Scholarship Endowment.

  • CHS Class of '65 Scholarship (no application, selected by committee)
    For CHS seniors showing significant academic improvement and excelling in the arts/music, business/law, language/literature/ technical fields, or math/science.
      The scholarship is funded by a restricted fund established by the Class of ’65.

  • CHS Class of '71 Scholarship (April 1 scholarship deadline)
    For CHS seniors demonstrating financial need, work history, academic achievement and community service. The scholarship is funded by a restricted fund established by the Class of ’71. 


  • CHS Class of '72 Scholarship in memory of classmates lost (April 1 scholarship deadline)
    For CHS seniors exhibiting financial need, academic excellence, excellent character, community service and athletic excellence. The scholarship is funded by a restricted fund established by the Class of ’72.

  • CHS Hall of Fame Scholarship (April 1 scholarship deadline)
    For CHS seniors planning to attend a 4-year college/university, who have demonstrated excellence in academics, athletics and fine arts activities, and have shown leadership skills and involvement in school and community groups/events. The scholarship is funded by the Hall of Fame Endowment and in memory of Keith Rozendal and others.


  • Charlotte Wilson Clarke Memorial Scholarship (April 1 scholarship deadline)
    For CHS seniors planning to major in Family and Consumer Sciences or Education. Applicants must show academic achievement and involvement in school and community activities. The scholarship is funded by an endowment established by Charlotte’s husband, Dr. Lester Clarke.


  • Sally J. Couser Memorial Scholarship (April 1 scholarship deadline - 3 scholarships)
    For CHS seniors who have made a commitment toward community service and attaining a higher education in health-related fields. Students must show determination for classroom academic achievement, financial need, and involvement in community and school activities to qualify. The scholarship is funded by an endowment established by Dr. Robert Couser.


  • Professor Virginia L. Dixon, Class of '63 Scholarship (April 1 scholarship deadline)
    For female CHS seniors with financial need.  Preference given to applicants with challenging family circumstances requiring them to work to help support their family, or individuals with significant care-taking duties of family members. The scholarship is funded by an endowment established by Dr. Virginia Dixon.


  • Doolittle Business Scholarship (May 1 scholarship deadline - multiple scholarships)
    Applicants must be CHS graduates currently in their freshman, sophomore or junior year of college.  Preference will be given to business related majors. The scholarship is funded by the Doolittle Memorial Endowment.


  • Gus Habeck Scholarship (no application, selected by committee) For CHS senior wrestlers demonstrating excellent character, financial need, and athletic excellence. The scholarship is funded by Gus's parents, Lance and Lindsay Habeck.

  • Lynn Hanson Scholarship (no application, selected by committee)
    Awarded to special young women who use positive energy in academics/athletics to influence others to challenge their expectations outside of school. Recipients participate and encourage other young women to be successful role models. The scholarship is funded by an endowment established by the friends and family of Lynn Hanson.


  • Joshua Hinderks Memorial Scholarship (April 1 scholarship deadline)
    For CHS seniors pursuing studies in the medical field, preference given to students majoring in chiropractic or massage therapy, physical therapy or sports medicine. The scholarship is funded by an endowment established by Josh’s family and friends.

  • Ray Hollan Memorial Scholarship (April 1 scholarship deadline)
    For CHS seniors majoring in music and demonstrating excellent character, a passion for community involvement. The scholarship is funded annually by Ray’s daughter, Mary Hollan.

  • Huff Construction Inc. Building/Construction Trades Scholarship (April 1 scholarship deadline - 2 scholarships)
    For CHS seniors pursuing a degree in construction management, architecture or carpentry. The scholarship is funded annually by Huff Construction, Inc.

  • Jeanette Hurrell Memorial Scholarship (April 1 scholarship deadline - 2 scholarships)
    For CHS seniors pursuing a 4-year degree in Nursing.  Applicants must exhibit academic achievement, financial need and school involvement. The scholarships are funded by an endowment established by Jeanette’s husband, William Hurrell.


  • Vern Jark Memorial Scholarship (no application, selected by committee)
    For CHS seniors showing excellence in athletics, character, teamwork, and leadership, and who strives for classroom achievements. This scholarship is funded by an endowment established by the friends and family of Vern Jark.


  • Johnsen-Herschleb Scholarship (April 1 scholarship deadline - 4 scholarships)
    For CHS seniors and graduates with financial need who have demonstrated academic success and leadership and are majoring in the field of Business or Fine Arts. This scholarship is funded by an endowment established by the Johnsen-Herschleb family.


  • Russ Keen Memorial Scholarship (April 1 scholarship deadline)
    Applicants must be CHS seniors or graduates currently in their freshman, sophomore or junior year of college, and pursuing a degree in Communications or Journalism. This scholarship is funded by an endowment established by friends and family of Russ Keen. 


  • Earnest Kerby Memorial Scholarship (April 1 scholarship deadline)
    For CHS seniors with financial need and a 2.0 GPA or higher pursuing building trades (specifically HVAC, electrical, plumbing or building construction) at a technical college or school. This scholarship is funded by a restricted fund established by Earnest's wife, Sharon Kerby and family.


  • Dean Kranhold Memorial Scholarship (April 1 scholarship deadline)
    For well-rounded CHS seniors who have displayed ability in academic excellence, community/school involvement and who have demonstrated an ability and love for the performance of music at CHS. Qualification does not require the recipient to major or minor in music.  This scholarship is funded by an endowment established by the friends and family of Dean Kranhold. 


  • Kurt Kruger Memorial Scholarship (April 1 scholarship deadline)
    For CHS seniors majoring in education and demonstrating excellent character, a passion for community service, academic excellence, and involvement in school activities.  The scholarship is funded by an endowment established by the family of Kurt Kruger.


  • Kyburz -Carlson Building /Construction Trades Scholarship (April 1 scholarship deadline) 
    For CHS seniors pursuing a post secondary degree in Building/Construction trades industry (including Project Management, Estimation, Construction Management, Carpentry, etc) and attending technical college, community college or university in SD or ND. The scholarship is funded by an endowment established by Kyburz-Carlson Construction.


  • Larry H. Lovrien Memorial Scholarship (no application, selected by committee)
    For CHS senior boys' soccer players demonstrating the traits of honesty, integrity, hard-work, self-discipline and teamwork. This scholarship is funded by an endowment established by the family and friends of Larry Lovrien. 


  • David Lust Scholarship (April 1 scholarship deadline)
    For CHS seniors and graduates demonstrating passion, purpose and potential. Minimum 3.0 GPA. Financial need may be considered. This scholarship is funded by an endowment established by the family and friends of David Lust. 

  • Coach Martens Memorial Scholarship (no application, selected by committee)
    For CHS seniors pursuing education and/or coaching with excellent character, athletic excellence, academic excellence and community service.  Students should show qualities of being a leader, having a hard work ethic and positive mindset. This scholarship is funded by an endowment established by the family and friends of Coach Bill Martens. 

  • Mike Miller "Committed to the Community" Scholarship (April 1 scholarship deadline)
    For CHS seniors showing exemplary volunteerism and commitment to his/her community. The scholarship is funded by an endowment established in Mike Miller’s honor.

  • Beth Rietz-Walth Education Scholarship (April 1 scholarship deadline)
    For CHS seniors demonstrating excellent character and academic achievement who are planning to major in education. Preference given to special education/speech pathology. The scholarship is funded by an endowment established by her daughter, Janelle Rietz-Kamenar, and many family and friends. 

  • Don and Rosemary Reshetar Scholarship (no application, selected by committee)
    For CHS seniors showing excellence in athletics, character, teamwork, and leadership, and who strives for classroom achievements.


  • Sanford Health Scholarship (April 1 scholarship deadline - 5 scholarships)
    For CHS seniors pursuing a healthcare-related degree from a post-secondary school located in North Dakota, South Dakota or Minnesota. Applicants show determination for classroom academic achievement, and provide a record of involvement in school activities.


  • Dave and Mary Ann Shaw Track and Cross Country Scholarship (no application, selected by committee)
    For CHS seniors of high character that enjoy and excel in middle and long distance events. The scholarship is funded by a restricted fund established by Dave and Mary Ann Shaw.


  • Jerry Slaby "In pursuit of a law career" Scholarship in honor of Dick Ratzlaff (April 1 scholarship deadline)
    For CHS seniors interested in becoming lawyers. The scholarship is funded annually by Jerry Slaby in honor of the memory of Dick Ratzlaff, ’60, who was a seven-year POW and a lawyer.


  • Claire Taylor-Sherman Scholarship (April 1 scholarship deadline)
    For CHS seniors exhibiting academic achievement, active participation in the school, extracurricular activities, community involvement and service. Financial need may be considered. This scholarship is funded by an endowment established by Claire's siblings William Taylor, Jr. and Ann Taylor and her husband Douglas Sherman.

  • Visual Arts Scholarship (April 1 scholarship deadline)
    For CHS seniors pursuing a post secondary degree in Art, Graphic Design, Structural or Construction Engineering, Interior Design or Architecture. The scholarship is funded by an endowment established by John Wald.

SCHOLARSHIPS OPEN TO CHS STUDENTS OFFERED BY OTHER INSTITUTIONS, AND CREATED BY CHS ALUMNI:

  • Arthur Lloyd-Davies Scholarship SD School of Mines and Technology awards a scholarship each year to an Aberdeen Central High School graduate that is attending college at SD SM&T. Students must be college sophomores, juniors or seniors to apply, and have a GPA of 2.5 or above. The scholarship has been endowed by the family. For more information click here.
